Sizzle is now a Community Software Studio. Here is how we got here, and why.
The journeyTwenty three years in four chapters.
We did not wake up one day and decide to make software. We were led here, one client at a time, by the people we serve.
Chapter one / 2002The agency years
Sizzle started as a marketing and creative agency in St. Louis. Brand systems, campaigns, websites, the works. Over 100 brand systems and 50 plus nonprofit clients later, we learned something that never left us: the organizations with the smallest budgets almost always have the biggest missions.
Chapter two / The camera yearsTelling the stories nobody else told
Documentary work took us deeper. Award winning films, public television, stories about ordinary people carrying extraordinary weight. Behind every camera setup was the same discovery: the real heroes of any community are the volunteers, teachers, coordinators, and parents doing unglamorous, essential work.
We learned how to see them. We never stopped.
Chapter three / The patternEvery client asked the same questions
How do we manage sign ups without a spreadsheet nightmare? How do we schedule parent teacher conferences without 400 emails? How do we sell event tickets without giving a third of the money to a platform that does not know our name?
The tools they were handed were built for someone else. Enterprise software ignored them. Consumer platforms nickel and dimed them. So we started building the tools ourselves, one client problem at a time.
Chapter four / NowThe studio
Today, Sizzle is a Community Software Studio. We design, build, and run a family of focused software products for schools, faith communities, and nonprofits. One shared design system. Honest pricing. Tools a volunteer can learn in an afternoon and trust for years.
The storytelling did not go away. It grew up. Now the story is built into the product.
Who we build forBuilt for the folding table.
Every community runs on someone sitting at a folding table with a clipboard, a cash box, and a to do list longer than the day. That person is our user. Every product decision answers to them.
Underserved is an understatement
Schools, congregations, and nonprofits are handed software built for corporations, then billed like corporations. They deserve tools designed for how they actually work: seasonal, volunteer run, and stretched thin.
Small budgets, huge stakes
When a fundraiser fails, a program gets cut. When conference night is chaos, families disengage. The stakes in community work are real. The software should take them seriously.
Nobody has time for a manual
Our users are music teachers, office admins, deacons, and den leaders. If a tool needs a training seminar, it has already failed. We build for the five minutes someone has between everything else.
“If it does not work for the volunteer at the folding table, it does not ship.”
What we stand forOur values, in writing.
These are not wall posters. They are the tests every product, price, and feature has to pass.
VALUE 01Clarity over cleverness
Plain language, obvious buttons, honest pricing pages. If a smart tenth grader cannot understand it, we rewrite it.
VALUE 02Small budgets are not small work
A $500 nonprofit project gets the same craft as a $50,000 one. Respect is not a pricing tier.
VALUE 03Ship tools people can run themselves
Real independence, not dependence dressed up as service. Our products work without us standing next to you. We are here when you want us, not because you are stuck.
VALUE 04Community is infrastructure
The bake sale, the conference night, the Sunday service, the season opener: these are not small events. They are how communities stay communities. We build like it matters, because it does.
VALUE 05In it for the long haul
Sizzle has been serving St. Louis and beyond since 2002. We are not a startup chasing an exit. We are a studio building tools we intend to maintain for decades.
The product familyThree tools. One promise.
Focused products that each do one job extremely well, built on a single shared design system so everything feels familiar from day one.

What changes, and what never will.
What changes: a new name for what we are (a Community Software Studio), a new look built on a bold, joyful brand system, and a front door organized around our product family and a menu of clear, fixed price services.
You will see the new colors, the new site, and a sharper focus on the tools themselves.
What never changes: the people. The craft. The care plans. The pick up the phone, actually helpful, we know your name way of working that clients have counted on for over two decades.
If you are a current client, nothing about your service is disrupted. You just get a better toolbox.
